NV Power seeks to broaden buyer refunds after overcharging $17M+

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An error at Nevada’s largest utility firm has now ballooned into tens of thousands and thousands of {dollars} in refunds.

NV Power mentioned it desires to pay clients again after years of misclassifying their houses and overcharging them.

“My energy bill was almost $200 last month, and it’s just me and an 8-year-old child in my house,” NV Power buyer Dantiaja Almanzar mentioned. “I don’t understand how my bill is so much. I’m working and he’s at school half the day, so they overcharge a lot.”

The corporate disclosed that greater than 42,000 multifamily residences, flats, condos, and townhomes had been mistakenly billed as single-family houses.

The error dates again eight years, and NV Power mentioned it has already refunded greater than $5 million. On Thursday, it filed a request with state regulators to broaden these refunds by an extra $32.6 million.

“Basically, they’ve raised the prices consistently over the past five or six years, and I’m sure they had their reasons for doing so, but why kick it back now?” Sessoms mentioned.
