LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill is working for a second time period, he introduced Wednesday.

Voters first elected McMahill, who oversees the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Division, in June 2022. McMahill received the first race outright with greater than 50% of the vote, permitting him to imagine the management place in January 2023.

“When I asked for your trust four years ago, I made three key promises: to take care of our officers’ mental and physical health, to fight crime with relentless focus, and to build the most innovative and technologically advanced police department in the country,” McMahill mentioned in a press release. “We have kept those promises. Crime is down across the board, officer wellness is stronger than ever, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is leading the nation in technology that saves lives. But this is only the beginning. Together, we will build on this momentum and deliver the safest future our community and our visitors have ever known.”

Since 2023, McMahill has been the face of a number of high-profile incidents, together with a mass taking pictures on the College of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an explosion on the Trump Worldwide Lodge.

McMahill’s marketing campaign credit a downward development in violence beneath his management, together with a virtually 23% in homicides since 2024.

McMahill credit his work constructing the division’s wellness bureau as an achievement.

McMahill joined the division in 1990. As of Wednesday, no challenger had entered the Clark County sheriff race. If re-elected, McMahill’s second time period would start in January 2027.
