Max streaming service is reviving the HBO title — the one it discarded two years in the past

NEW YORK (AP) — HBO is returning — at the least in a reputation.

Warner Bros. Discovery stated Wednesday that it was rebranding its streaming service as HBO Max this summer time, as a substitute of the present Max.

The Max title dated to Warner’s merger with Discovery and was thought of a curious selection when made in 2023. HBO is extensively thought of a gold customary for high quality whereas Max was a reference to the much less well-regarded Cinemax community.

Two years later, the corporate is reviving the HBO Max title, which was utilized by Warner earlier than the merger. Whereas the corporate did not acknowledge a mistake, the transfer was loudly applauded Wednesday when introduced at a presentation to advertisers.

“The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming,” stated David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. “Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”

Now, HBO government Casey Bloys advised advertisers, he has a desk drawer filled with outdated stationery that he can use once more.
