LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A search at Lake Mead on Wednesday ended within the rescue of a person and his canine who had gone to the lake in quest of one other canine that had been reported misplaced, the Nationwide Park Service (NPS) mentioned Thursday.
A 48-year-old hiker, who was not recognized, was present in “a very remote area” of the park, based on officers.
The person took his canine on a search after studying on-line a few canine that went lacking after a crash on Might 28. When the person was reported overdue, a search was initiated involving NPS rangers, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Division, the Bureau of Land Administration, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Nevada Division of Wildlife and Crimson Rock Search and Rescue.
Rangers discovered the hiker.
“Our rangers demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and responsiveness during this operation,” Lake Mead Superintendent Mike Gauthier mentioned. “Thanks to their quick action and the strong coordination between partner agencies, we were able to bring this person — and their dog — home safely. We’re proud of the outcome and the teamwork behind it.”
Folks at Lake Mead reported seeing a helicopter hovering on the lake on the time of the energetic search. There have been stories it was a police helicopter and a dive boat was additionally reported. NPS didn’t verify these stories.
NPS officers urged guests to be ready for extreme warmth:
Convey water: At the very least one gallon per individual, per day.
Gown for the climate: Put on mild clothes, a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen.
Keep away from peak warmth: Restrict outside exercise between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Know the indicators of warmth sickness: Dizziness, confusion or nausea require rapid motion.
Don’t depend on cell service: Have a plan and carry a map or GPS.
