Downtown Las Vegas church closes doorways after 70 years

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After greater than 70 years of worship, fellowship, and group, one of many final remaining church buildings in Downtown Las Vegas is closing its doorways.

Congregants at Grace Presbyterian Church celebrated their final Easter Mass at their church campus close to the I-15 and Charleston on Sunday.

The church was pressured to relocate as a consequence of rising rents, security considerations within the space, and the enlargement of the freeway, which made it difficult for members to get to and from the church’s campus.

“It’s just gonna be a lot of change, and change, even when it’s positive, is hard for people,” Affiliate Pastor Craig Sanders mentioned. “This is the place we’ve done ministry for 70 years, and now we’re going to be going to a new home, and we’re excited about that, but it’s hard. It’s hard for these people to leave. They mourn it all the time.”

The church’s new location close to Rhodes Ranch will likely be smaller than its present campus as a result of elevated value of constructing. However Sanders says the downsizing will permit the church to host extra providers, permitting extra individuals to hitch.

“The people are the church, not the building,” Sanders mentioned. “The building is a tool that we use, but we’re taking all those people with us, and so we as the church are going there… this is just a new generation for ministry for us.”

Grace Presbyterian Church will host its remaining service at its present church campus on Might 4. They may have providers at Mountain View Presbyterian Church till they transfer into their new location in December.
