CCSD Police use laser sensor on bike to show drivers share the street

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With the college 12 months underway, college students and workers might select to commute by bicycle. Due to this, the Clark County Faculty District Police Division (CCSDPD) desires to remind drivers share the street.

“We’ve had 54 kids get hit by cars so far this year on their way to or from school, and almost half of them are on e-bikes or e-scooters,” CCSDPD Lt. Michael Campbell stated.

To teach drivers on the regulation whereas implementing it, officers rode bicycles on streets across the intersection of Charleston and Lamb boulevards. One of many bikes was geared up with a distance-measuring laser.

Drivers are required by regulation to offer a minimum of three ft of room to bicyclists, concerning the width of half a lane. If a driver was too shut, one other police officer would pull them over.

“Most people, especially today, have actually been very respectful,” CCSDPD officer Steven Patty stated. “They’ve been getting over and giving us the space. Close to the end, we had several, that came very, very close to us within, 15-16 inches of hitting us, and those are the types of things we’re trying to avoid.”
