Homeless encampment in east Las Vegas valley raises security considerations amongst residents

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Residents in an east Las Vegas valley group say a homeless encampment close to Boulder Freeway has grown shortly – bringing trash, tents, and security considerations.

For neighbors like Mark Dabbis, the world close to Boulder Freeway and Indios Avenue has modified dramatically. 

“It’s really bad, especially at night, so I try not to come here at night. Even here at 7-Eleven, they always have problems,” Dabbis stated.

“So many. If you go to the bus stop here, you always find two or three people sitting there, homeless. All the time,” Dabbis stated.

Crews from LVMPD and Code Enforcement spent the day eradicating tents, couches, bicycles, and piles of particles, even private belongings like IDs and youngsters’s toys.

“I’ve quite a lot of associates who dwell right here. They at all times complain. They at all times complain about how dangerous this space is, nevertheless it’s very arduous to maneuver out as a result of it’s cheaper than different areas on the town,” Dabbis stated.

Dabbis stated he avoids strolling within the space throughout sure components of the day for security considerations.

“At night, really, it’s bad, so I try not to come here at night,” Dabbis stated. “People ask for money, and I’m retired. I don’t really have a lot of money, and so I said ‘No, I don’t have any change’, and he start cursing me out, and I get very scared because I thought he would be violent if I don’t give him money.”

“It’s bad but I think it’s almost everywhere in town,” Dabbis stated.
