Truck fireplace marks eighth of 2024 on steep Loss of life Valley highway

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A tractor-trailer rig hauling heavy gear caught fireplace on Sunday because it got here down a steep grade in Loss of life Valley Nationwide Park, officers stated Monday.

Firefighters from the city of Beatty, Nevada, and the Nationwide Park Service put out the hearth that started when the rig’s brakes overheated. The motive force was cited for driving with a suspended license.

“This was the eighth vehicle fire this year in Death Valley National Park, and the sixth fire due to overheated brakes,” Mike Reynolds, superintendent of Loss of life Valley Nationwide Park, stated. “We want to remind drivers of heavy vehicles to down-shift on steep grades and consider pulling over to allow their brakes to cool down.”

California State Route 190 (CA-190) — the principle highway by way of Loss of life Valley — descends practically 5,000 toes from Towne Go. Business vehicles are prohibited on different roads within the park.
