LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Tons of confirmed up Saturday night to The Expo at World Market Middle for the annual Juneteenth Pageant in Las Vegas.
“It’s the Juneteenth weekend and to have this in our city is awesome. It’s grown into something spectacular,” Las Vegas native, Capucine Holmes stated.
From stay music and leisure to meals distributors and native artisans, attendees got here collectively to have fun Black freedom and historical past.
Valley resident, Thomas Hicks made certain to participate in each the indoor and out of doors actions.
“I think it’s a good setup with the weather being what it is so you can come inside and take a break from the heat, but also go outside and get the same experience,” he stated.
Whereas Juneteenth is a reasonably new federal vacation, Hicks stated it has been part of his upbringing from the beginning.
“We’ve been celebrating Juneteenth since the 90’s so I’m happy that’s it’s expanding where people can learn and share it with everyone they know,” Hicks added.

“I’m extremely proud at the work Las Vegas has done. It’s about uplifting our community and it’s extremely important we carry this legacy on,” Goynes-Brown stated.

“This league is made up of over 80% women of color and so representation matters. It’s important that we recognize those who have paved the way for these women to be able to compete,” Fargas stated.
The Juneteenth Pageant was free and open to the general public. It lasted till 9 p.m. Saturday night.
