Rains wash particles over highway in Demise Valley Nationwide Park

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Tuesday rainstorm washed particles over an necessary north-south highway in Demise Valley Nationwide Park.

North Freeway is closed as crews assess the injury. Particles greater than 2 toes deep in locations has buried the highway.

The highway can also be labeled on park maps as Scotty’s Fortress Street.

North Freeway in Demise Valley Nationwide Park is closed because of injury after particles washed over the highway. The highway runs from southeast to northwest on the map above.

“The road is closed between Grapevine Ranger Station and the intersection with CA 190. It is not possible to exit this way if vehicles enter from Big Pine or Racetrack Road,” based on a Nationwide Park Service (NPS) information launch.

Officers mentioned highway shoulders have been broken or washed away, and pavement has been undercut.

Two years in the past, remnants from Hurricane Hilary brought on flash floods that brought on a lot injury that the park closed for about two months.
