New Jersey man reported lacking at Grand Canyon; Cybertruck discovered at trailhead

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 35-year-old New Jersey man has been reported lacking within the Grand Canyon after his Tesla Cybertruck was discovered at a trailhead six days after his final contact with family and friends.

Thomas Daniel Gibbs was involved on July 22 at about midday, and his truck was discovered the identical day he was reported lacking, July 28. The Cybertruck was discovered at Grandview Level parking zone on the South Rim, and he’s believed to have been within the space of the Grandview Path and Horseshoe Mesa on July 22.

Gibbs, of Freehold, New Jersey, is described as a white male, 6-feet-1-inch tall with brown hair and brown eyes. He does not have tattoos.

The Grandview Level parking zone is about 12 miles east of Grand Canyon Village.

Whereas the South Rim stays open and continues to welcome guests, there’s at present no entry to the North Rim or to North Rim services. The North Rim is closed for the rest of the 2025 season after the Dragon Bravo Fireplace destroyed 70 buildings, together with the historic Grand Canyon Lodge.

Rangers are asking anybody who was within the Grandview Path space round July 22 for data on his whereabouts, or any data that may assist in finding him.
