Nevada Senate invoice goals to crack down on pet mills

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A invoice cracking down on pet mills is heading to the Nevada Senate. Meeting Invoice 487 would prohibit pet shops from promoting canines and cats for revenue. The invoice handed within the Nevada Meeting by a 32-9 vote.

Advocates for the invoice mentioned it will permit retail pet shops to work with animal shelters or rescues for adoption functions, with no compensation offered.  “We have a number of shelters in our community, both in northern Nevada and southern Nevada, that are bursting at the seams with wonderful, adorable, and adoptable pets,” Nevada State Director of Humane World for Animals Rebecca Goff mentioned. AB 487 would prohibit a pet retailer from promoting, providing to promote, bartering, auctioning, or transferring possession of any canine or cat with sure exceptions for animal shelters and rescue organizations.  “This is really important for the state because what it would do is it would end that puppy mill to pet store pipeline that’s trucking in all these puppies from Midwestern puppy mills into Nevada,” Goff mentioned. “Those animals are raised in deplorable conditions.
