Nevada nonprofit escorts native veterans on journey to Washington D.C.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Sunday was a homecoming to recollect for a bunch of Korean and Vietnam veterans after the nonprofit group, Honor Flight Southern Nevada escorted them on a visit to Washington D.C.

Thirty-five veterans visited locations a number of historic spots together with the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and Iwo Jima Memorial.

The group holds the journey twice a yr with this being their twenty third mission.

Phil Krieger with Honor Flight Southern Nevada was happy with the turnout on Sunday as almost 150 individuals welcomed the veterans again dwelling to Las Vegas, cheering them on with indicators and pom poms in hand.

“We’ve taken over 660 veterans to D.C. Most of them were Vietnam Vets and were reluctant to go, but you’ll see when they come back, they will have tears in their eyes,” Krieger added.

“All the memorials we went to and the monuments we saw were amazing. The way that we were treated and greeted was far different than 50 years ago,” Schiffbauer shared.

“It was unexpected. We applied and we got the call right away that he was admitted,” Tim O’Rourke stated.

Honor Flight Southern Nevada has been working for 12 years, and every Veteran should be escorted by a guardian. There isn’t any paid employees, and it is utterly run by volunteers. Their subsequent journey is ready for October.
