Nevada Meeting Speaker won’t search re-election

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada Meeting Speaker Steve Yeager won’t run for re-election, a spokesperson introduced Monday.

Yeager, a Democrat, alongside the Meeting Ground Majority Chief, Democrat Assem. Sandra Jauregui, won’t run in 2026.

Yeager served as speaker for 2 legislative periods. Voters first elected each to the chamber in 2016.

“I’m honored to have represented Meeting District 9 since 2016, and I’m grateful for the belief the voters positioned in me over the previous 5 election cycles,” Yeager said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the legislators and legislative employees I’ve served with, and I’m happy with all that we had been in a position to accomplish collectively, notably within the areas of public training funding, trainer pay raises, voting entry, defending reproductive healthcare, strengthening organized labor, and rising entry to out of doors recreation. I’m dedicated to persevering with to contribute to this nice state that has given me a lot.”

“Serving the folks of Nevada within the Meeting has been the dignity of a lifetime. After cautious reflection, I’ve determined to not search re-election to District 41,” Jauregui said in a statement. “I’m extremely happy with what my colleagues and I’ve completed collectively from strengthening our gun security legal guidelines, investing in inexpensive housing to creating good-paying jobs.
