Netrebko withdraws from Ariadne position debut in Vienna, changed by Davidsen in star soprano swap

Anna Netrebko has withdrawn from her deliberate position debut in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” on the Vienna State Opera and been changed by Lise Davidsen in a swap of star sopranos.

“Ill health this month compromised the preparation time required before starting rehearsals just after the new year,” Netrebko mentioned in a press release Monday. “I’m unhappy that I can’t be deciphering this unimaginable new position however, due to the time unexpectedly misplaced, I’m unable to organize it to the usual I demand of myself.”

Netrebko opened the season at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala with six performances as Leonora in Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” from Dec. 7-22.

Davidsen made her Ariadne position debut at England’s Glyndebourne Pageant in 2017. She’s going to take over from Netrebko for 4 performances from Jan. 21-31 in a solid that features Michael Spyres, Kate Lindsey and Sara Blanch, with conductor Cornelius Meister.

“Bogdan Roščić and I are working to find a new period as soon as possible for me to sing it in Vienna,” Netrebko mentioned, referring to the Vienna State Opera director.

Netrebko’s subsequent scheduled efficiency is a recital in Palm Seashore, Florida, on Feb. 3, 2025, her first U.S. look since 2019.
