LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With animal cruelty a high concern throughout the valley, the Metropolis of Las Vegas is doing what it could possibly to up its legal guidelines and add extra assets.

Metropolis officers look to create an animal advisory committee, one other device for these trying to report animal cruelty crimes, however with this comes some pushback from fellow council members.

Metropolis Councilwoman Victoria Seaman spearheaded this proposed ordinance in hopes that it’s going to move in Wednesday’s Metropolis Council assembly.

Seaman shared what the committee would entail.

“Each council member and the Mayor would choose someone to meet quarterly to talk to us about animal issues they’ve seen and possible solutions,” Seaman instructed 8 Information Now.

Seaman acknowledged that a few of her fellow council members aren’t on board with the proposed invoice.

“Why can’t you take the years of experience that I have and work with me on this and try the animal advisory? It does not cost taxpayers one dime so what’s the harm,” she added.

Bryce Henderson, the President of NO KILL Las Vegas, a neighborhood animal rights advocacy group, urged individuals to point out their help on the assembly.

“A lot of people are not sure where to turn when they need services for their animals and this would be an additional resource. A place for them to go and ask questions and relay their concerns. The city has over 20 different committees, including one for parking spaces. What’s the big deal about having an animal advisory committee?” Henderson requested.

Metropolis Councilman Brian Knudsen of Ward 1 isn’t on board with the thought. He stated there is a larger image right here, that the Mayor will in the end handle in time.

“I think Mayor Berkeley has shared a vision for creating something that is regional and have a broad-reaching impact on the animal community. My second issue I have is a lot of constituents reach out to me and I don’t need an intermediary committee taking up resources that the city has that could be out in the streets as opposed to sitting in a meeting, talking,” Councilman Knudsen instructed 8 Information Now.
