Man discovered responsible of killing ex-wife inside Las Vegas Strip lodge room

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Clark County jury delivered a responsible verdict Thursday in opposition to a person who killed his ex-wife inside a Las Vegas Strip lodge room.

Las Vegas Metro police arrested Fernando Gomez, 44, on Could 28, 2023, after he referred to as 911 to say that his spouse was useless and that he had tried to kill himself, paperwork mentioned. Gomez and his ex-wife, Nydia Lopez-Garcia, 37, have been visiting from Texas.

When police arrived on the pair’s MGM Grand lodge room, they discovered Lopez-Garcia on the ground with cuts and blunt-force trauma. Medical personnel decided that she was past assist and pronounced her useless on the scene.

Gomez and Lopez-Garcia have been married for 14 years earlier than they separated in 2022, police mentioned on the time of his arrest. The pair traveled to Las Vegas with their three kids who weren’t within the room.

Gomez instructed police he and Lopez-Garcia started to argue. He later smashed a bottle on the bottom and held a bit of glass to her personal throat, paperwork mentioned. Gomez instructed police that he grabbed the glass and killed her with it.

The jury returned its responsible verdict Thursday after a brief trial for a cost of homicide with the homicide of a lethal weapon, a courtroom spokesperson mentioned.

Gomez can be sentenced on April 2.
