LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A jury awarded $15 million to the household of a person killed in a crash involving former UNLV basketball recruit Zaon Collins, attorneys stated Tuesday.

Eric Echevarria, 52, was killed within the crash on Dec. 30, 2020. Las Vegas Metropolitan police paperwork stated Collins was driving practically 90 mph in a 35-mph zone close to Fort Apache and Blue Diamond roads when he hit Echevarria’s automobile.

In 2023, Collins accepted a plea deal the place he agreed to plead responsible to a felony cost of reckless driving leading to dying and a misdemeanor cost of vehicular manslaughter. He initially confronted a DUI cost.

Collins served lower than 90 days in jail. A grand jury declined to indict him on a DUI cost. The Echevarria household filed its lawsuit in 2021.

The jury returned its verdict Tuesday afternoon after a number of days of testimony.
