An upcoming version of “Hansel and Gretel” combines the darkish and singular abilities of two literary giants who apparently by no means met: Stephen King and the late Maurice Sendak.

HarperCollins Publishers introduced Thursday that the King-Sendak re-imagining of the famed Brothers Grimm story about two misplaced kids in a daunting forest is scheduled for Sept. 2. King’s phrases shall be complemented by sketches Sendak drew up for set and costume designs for a 1997 manufacturing of the Humperdinck opera adaptation.
