LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Henderson police launched particulars within the lethal capturing of a 71-year-old man after police entered his dwelling.
The capturing occurred almost a month in the past on the morning of June 26 in a house on Casa Colorado Avenue, close to Boulder Freeway and E. Twain Avenue.
Henderson Captain Benson Harper launched data and a video of the police-involved capturing via a video posted on YouTube.
He stated the incident started on the night of June 23 when police had been investigating a housebreaking involving a stolen automobile in a luxurious dwelling neighborhood close to Grand Hills Drive and Jap Avenue.
Harper stated, throughout the investigation, police had been in a position to observe and discover the stolen automobile on the dwelling on Casa Colorado Avenue.
“At approximately 7 a.m., SWAT team officers made announcements through a long-range acoustic speaker, deployed distraction devices, and made entry into the residence,” Harper stated.
Henderson SWAT Officer Michael Stevens encountered Bruce Ayer, 71, within the kitchen and had in his hand what gave the impression to be a gun, Harper stated.

“Mr. Ayer pointed what Officer Stevens identified as a handgun at SWAT team members,” he stated, including that the officer moved again to take cowl.
Harper stated Ayer “refused to drop the weapon and continued to advance toward officers,” pointing the handgun at them, leading to Officer Stevens firing two instances, hitting Ayer within the torso. He died after being transported to a neighborhood hospital.

All Harper stated in regards to the weapon in Ayer’s hand is that it was “designed to look like a full-size handgun.” He stated the investigation is ongoing and the findings will likely be forwarded to the chief.
