LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — About 100 employees who clear and gas up RTC buses in Southern Nevada have rejected the newest contract supply and approved a strike if vital, in accordance with a union official.
Bus operators and mechanics usually are not concerned within the dispute, the union mentioned. The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Native 1637-Las Vegas, represents greater than 1,200 employees — together with operators — that carry out numerous capabilities on RTC buses.
Silver State Transportation is a subcontractor that works for RTC, and the ATU contract for the 100 employees is with Silver State.
Invoice Lynn, Jr., Native 1637 president/enterprise agent, advised 8 Information Now on Friday that his employees simply need parity with employees in comparable roles for different firms within the valley that serve para-transit companies, airport shuttles and Allegiant Stadium. Because it stands now, the contract with Silver State Transportation is paying the employees a few third of what comparable employees are making, Lynn mentioned.
Negotiations between ATU Native 1637 and Silver State have been ongoing since February. The employees joined the union over a 12 months in the past.
“Our members are ready to fight for the contract we deserve,” Lynn mentioned in a press release issued on Friday. “Fair wages, dignity, respect, and a quality of life so that we can live in the communities we serve. These Utility workers and Cleaners play a critical role for the RTC and deserve the same wages as their counterparts. Many of our members have also attended bargaining sessions with Silver State Transportation, witnessing for themselves that this company does not value them. We don’t want to strike for the sake of our riders, but will continue to stand up for working families and better service.”
The union intends to rally at a Jan. 9, 2025, RTC assembly forward of scheduled mediation periods in January, Lynn mentioned.
