Crimson Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers set up 1,000 smoke alarms freed from cost

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Greater than 150 American Crimson Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers hit the streets with Clark County firefighters to put in free smoke alarms across the group.

The units are small however have a big effect. Crimson Cross volunteers say that when a fireplace begins, individuals solely have two minutes to get out of a home.

“If you don’t have a smoke detector to let you know, your time decreases significantly, so we want to make sure that you have those,” Rachel Flanigan, government director of Southern Nevada’s American Crimson Cross chapter, stated.

Volunteers and firefighters additionally educated households on creating an evacuation plan, testing smoke alarms each six months, and fireplace risks of their house.

“The great thing for us is when a fire does happen and a family says, if it hadn’t been for those alarms, we wouldn’t have been able to make it out, and that’s what’s really important for us,” Flanigan stated.
