LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Whereas college students and academics are out for summer time break, CCSD custodians are busy all 12 months maintaining colleges clear.
At East Profession and Technical Academy, custodian Ma Elena Borces provides the ending touches earlier than college students fill the hallways. With 14 years of expertise at CCSD, she has served at a number of elementary, center, and excessive colleges throughout the district.
The custodial staff works mornings, days, and nights to make sure the college is able to go as greater than a thousand college students stroll via these halls.
“We do a deep cleaning; we go room to room, making sure all the classrooms are clean before the teachers come in and get ready for the school year,” Borces mentioned. “It’s for the kids, and we make sure that everything is safe for the kids when they’re coming back.”
She takes delight in creating an organized house for college kids.
“We’re stripping the floor, and it’s dirt, and after that, when we’re done and we put the wax and it looks amazing, it makes me feel like, oh, I did that,” Borces mentioned.
Faculty workers like achievement coach Jayme Rawson, mentioned their exhausting work doesn’t go unnoticed.
“Our students actually have a deep appreciation for our entire custodial team. So, every year students have different opportunities to say thank you to staff, and they never miss ensuring that they say thank you to our custodians, and the custodians have a relationship with the students, so you see them saying hello, checking in on them,” Rawson mentioned.
Borces mentioned her college staff is sort of a household and mentioned her job is her manner of giving again.
“My kids graduated here, my two kids. I feel like this school motivated my kids to finish,” Borces mentioned. “So I’m going to help those kids, too, to motivate themselves.”
Her dedication to the scholars and her work present as Borces will begin her new position as lead custodian this college 12 months.
“For me, it’s a very big responsibility,” Borces mentioned.
