Soccer legend Woodrow Lowe reportedly handed away at 71

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — Soccer legend, former College of Alabama and San Diego Chargers linebacker Woodrow Lowe, has reportedly handed away on the age of 71 on Thursday morning.

Woodrow Lowe is the brother of Phenix Metropolis Mayor Eddie Lowe and is understood for being a highschool soccer star at Central-Phenix Metropolis Excessive Faculty.

Eddie Lowe confirmed with WRBL Information 3 that his brother handed away.

Woodrow Lowe was born June 9, 1954, in Phenix Metropolis, Alabama. He excelled at Central Excessive Faculty, the College of Alabama and later with the San Diego Chargers.

From 1973 to 1975, beneath legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, Woodrow Lowe earned All-America honors 3 times — the one participant Bryant ever coached to attain that distinction. He captained the Crimson Tide and set Alabama’s all-time tackling document at 315, a mark that also ranks among the many program’s leaders.

“He’s the only three-time All-American that Coach Bryant ever coached at Alabama,” mentioned his brother, Eddie Lowe.

Following his NFL profession, Woodrow Lowe turned to teaching. He spent 4 seasons with the Kansas Metropolis Chiefs (1995–1998) and two with the Oakland Raiders (1999–2000), earlier than teaching on the school and highschool ranges in Alabama and Mississippi.
