LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Southern Nevada Well being District is becoming a member of a nationwide initiative devoted to stopping overdose deaths by offering free naloxone.
The Well being District is partnering with SOAR WV (Options Oriented Habit Response of West Virginia) to host free naloxone distribution occasions at a number of places throughout the valley on Thursday, Sept. 25, to mark “Save a Life Day.”
Naloxone is a protected, efficient treatment that reverses opioid overdoses, SNHD stated.
In response to the Well being District, Clark County reported 802 drug overdose deaths in 2024, 454 of which concerned fentanyl. Opioid-involved deaths have greater than doubled since 2018, with fentanyl-related deaths rising practically 700 p.c.
“Substance use is one of the most pressing public health challenges we face,” Dr. Cassius Lockett, District Well being Officer, stated. “By taking part in Save a Life Day, the Health District and our partners are expanding access to lifesaving tools and reinforcing our commitment to overdose prevention in Southern Nevada.”
