Anna Netrebko has withdrawn from her deliberate position debut in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” on the Vienna State Opera and been changed by Lise Davidsen in a swap of star sopranos.

“Ill health this month compromised the preparation time required before starting rehearsals just after the new year,” Netrebko mentioned in a press release Monday. “I’m unhappy that I can’t be deciphering this unimaginable new position however, due to the time unexpectedly misplaced, I’m unable to organize it to the usual I demand of myself.”

Netrebko opened the season at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala with six performances as Leonora in Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” from Dec. 7-22.

Davidsen made her Ariadne position debut at England’s Glyndebourne Pageant in 2017. She’s going to take over from Netrebko for 4 performances from Jan. 21-31 in a solid that features Michael Spyres, Kate Lindsey and Sara Blanch, with conductor Cornelius Meister.

“Bogdan Roščić and I are working to find a new period as soon as possible for me to sing it in Vienna,” Netrebko mentioned, referring to the Vienna State Opera director.

Netrebko’s subsequent scheduled efficiency is a recital in Palm Seashore, Florida, on Feb. 3, 2025, her first U.S. look since 2019.
