Bail set at $500K for Las Vegas man charged in lethal DUI crash on Christmas morning

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas decide ordered a 20-year-old man held on a half-million {dollars} bail Thursday, a day after a crash that killed one man and injured two others simply 11 minutes into the Christmas vacation.

Data present Giraldo Salas-Chacon is being held at Clark County Detention Middle on costs of driving below the affect and reckless driving, each leading to dying. The crash occurred simply after midnight on December 25 on Maryland Parkway close to the intersection of Sahara Avenue. 

Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Courtroom, prosecutors requested for — and have been granted — $500,000 bail. They argued that Salas-Chacon was driving his Dodge Journey at 105 mph, some 75 mph over the posted velocity restrict on Maryland. Prosecutors argued that Salas-Chacon was uncooperative with police after they arrived.

“The fact that you’re 20 years old and violating the law by consuming alcohol and getting behind the wheel of car shows this court that you are a danger to this community and that you don’t follow the laws of the state,” Decide Suzan Baucum instructed Salas-Chacon, via an interpreter, earlier than she despatched him again to CCDC Thursday. 

The person who died on scene was past resuscitation, a launch from Metro police stated. Salas-Chacon was taken to a close-by hospital with minor accidents and “showed signs of impairment,” the discharge stated.

A public defender instructed Baucum that Salas-Chacon has ties to the neighborhood, with household dwelling “in the jurisdiction,” and “has no criminal history to speak of.” She stated his household was in courtroom Thursday to indicate their assist.
