Saturday morning, army households and their youngsters had the chance to choose a backpack and cargo it up without spending a dime at Operation Homefront’s Again-to-College Brigade.

“Each family here has registered military children,” Amanda Castilliano, senior regional operations supervisor for Operation Homefront, stated. “They’re receiving a brand-new backpack, supply kit, a gift card to buy additional supplies and then we have over 30 community partners here for them today.”

Children like Jax Leichty, who picked out a superhero-themed backpack, are excited for what’s on the horizon.

“Meeting new friends and helping them do assignments,” Leichty stated.

Jax Leichty’s mother, Brigeda Leichty stated she is pleased to see the assist for army households like hers.

“It’s like a weight lifted off the shoulders to know that they’ll be fully prepared for the school year,” she stated.

Different households, like Matthew and Julia Purvis’s, really feel the identical method.

“This is nice that they put this on for us,” Matthew Purvis stated. “It makes us feel appreciated, and it’s good for the military community.”
