LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Republican Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo will authorize the Nevada Nationwide Guard to help in federal immigration enforcement, a spokesperson confirmed Friday.
The guardsmen will assist “Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a temporary, administrative capacity,” Elizabeth Ray, the governor’s communication director, stated.
In December, the governor signed onto a letter with different Republican governors signalling his assist of the then-president-elect’s immigration enforcement insurance policies.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Division of Justice named Nevada a sanctuary state, stating it had “policies, laws, or regulations that impede enforcement of federal immigration laws.” Lombardo stated in an announcement on his social media that Nevada is just not a sanctuary state and wouldn’t be underneath his management.
The Nevada Nationwide Guard authorization can be paid for via federal funds.
