LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Henderson officers broke floor on an almost three-year undertaking to widen I-215 on Wednesday morning. The plan is so as to add two lanes in every course of the interstate from Pecos Highway to Stephanie Avenue.

The stretch of I-215 is beginning to present its age. Henderson Metropolis Engineer Steven Conner stated there was a 25 % inhabitants progress within the space for the reason that early days of the freeway.

“The efficiency of the 215 has [gone] down, over the years,” Conner stated. “So adding two lanes in each direction will really increase the capacity, help the flow in and out of Henderson.”

Along with the brand new lanes, there are plans for on and off ramp enhancements, a pedestrian bridge on Village Stroll Drive, and altering visitors flows on the Inexperienced Valley Parkway/I-215 interchange. A diverging diamond format will likely be on the interchange.

Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero stated the diamond is useful for a busy space.

“We have others in Henderson, but this will, in a traffic situation that is often very congested because there’s so much to do around here, it will take that congestion and ease it,” Romero stated.

Whereas the objective is to ease congestion, there are inevitable slowdowns when cones pop up. Conner stated they shouldn’t be too unhealthy on the interstate — one lane could also be closed at night time as wanted.

“Since the work can happen outside the travel lanes, we’re able to maintain the same amount of traffic,” Conner stated.

The undertaking is estimated to price $145 million and will likely be funded by Clark County. It’s set to begin in July and finish in early 2028.
