Senate Democratic Chief Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) says China “got the better” of the Trump administration after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Commerce Consultant Jamieson Greer introduced they reached a cope with Chinese language officers to de-escalate the commerce warfare between the world’s two greatest economies.

“Sadly, it looks like China once again got the better of Trump. Another example of Trump chaos. He has one policy one day, one the next. Who knows what it’ll be tomorrow,” Schumer posted on the social media platform X.

U.S. and Chinese language officers agreed over the weekend to dramatically decrease reciprocal tariffs to offer the 2 sides extra time to barter a deal, organising what one Chinese language official described as a “trade consultation mechanism” to resolve their disputes.

The US and China introduced Monday they might droop larger tariffs for 90 days, reducing U.S. charges on Chinese language imports from 145 p.c to 30 p.c and reducing Chinese language duties on American items from 125 p.c to 10 p.c.

The inventory market rallied on the information because the Dow Jones Industrial Common gained practically 1,000 factors, or 2.2 p.c, and the S&P 500 and tech-heavy NASDAQ rose by 2.5 p.c and three.4 p.c respectively.
