Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo urges Trump to finish tariffs on lithium

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo despatched a letter on Monday to President Donald Trump asking for reduction from tariffs that threaten to kill lithium manufacturing within the U.S.

Lombardo’s letter famous that Nevada is on the forefront of efforts to arrange home manufacturing that may assist to realize U.S. power independence.

Presently, all manufacturing-grade lithium is imported from China, the letter mentioned. Some U.S. corporations export lithium to Canada and Mexico for processing. Lithium is vital to manufacturing electrical autos, and Nevada is house to the most important recognized U.S. deposits of the mineral.

“Mr. President, I respectfully urge you to reconsider and remove the tariffs on lithium. Given that domestic processing is not yet a viable option, the current environment poses a serious risk to jobs in Nevada and across the country. Your timely attention to this issue is deeply appreciated. Removing the tariffs on lithium will help secure American jobs, strengthen our economy, and support our path toward energy independence,” Lombardo wrote.

Throughout his first days in workplace, Trump moved to finish Biden administration insurance policies that favored renewable power tasks. Lombardo advised Trump that Nevada corporations can’t take up the prices of newly imposed tariffs.
