Famed artist's work on show at UNLV museum

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegans can now see the works of a famed artist up shut at UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum of Artwork.

Yoko Kondo Konopik’s artwork has been displayed worldwide, from Egypt to Indonesia, from Japan to Las Vegas.

“In my old age, it’s very special,” mentioned Konopik. “I cannot explain how appreciative I am.”

The museum shows 40 years of Konopik’s work, from her oldest portray, created in 1984, to her newest, produced in 2024. The Japanese-American painter began exploring portray within the Seventies, when her husband was stationed for work in Paris. There, she taught herself artwork via books.

“I didn’t even know how to use the oil at that time,” she explained. “Everything was brand new for me.”

Konopik finally moved to the U.S. in her 30s. With expertise and time, Konopik mentioned she discovered her fashion and rhythm.

She now takes pleasure in minimalistic types, aiming to make individuals really feel “happy” once they view her artwork.

Her artwork might be on show on the college museum till Could 17. The exhibit is free and open Tuesday via Saturday, from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m.
