LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 25-year regulation enforcement veteran will lead Nevada State Police Freeway Patrol as its new colonel starting June 30, a spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Michael Edgell will take the highest spot following the earlier colonel’s retirement in March. Edgell beforehand served with the Nevada Freeway Patrol starting in 1998. He retired in 2023 however returned to the Division of Public Security to guide its investigation division, the division stated.
“Michael Edgell brings extensive experience and knowledge to the position of colonel for the Nevada Highway Patrol,” Director George Togliatti stated in a press release. “He is committed to the agency’s mission and to serving the public, with a focus on integrity, professionalism, and public safety throughout Nevada.”
“It is an honor to serve as the colonel of the highway patrol and work alongside the dedicated men and women who serve and protect our communities across the State of Nevada,” Edgell stated. “Collectively, we are going to carry ahead our mission of retaining Nevada’s roadways secure. Thanks to Director Togliatti for this chance.”
Togliatti was main the division within the interim.
Edgell takes over amid a extreme trooper scarcity, which earlier management warned was affecting security.
